Infusion Services
Intravenous (I.V.) infusion therapy is a method of
administering a medication through the veins. It
requires a nurse to insert a small plastic cannula
into a vein in the hand or forearm and then
connect it to a bag of intravenous solution
containing the medication. The medication is
then dripped into the vein at a rate prescribed by
the physician.

While you relax in our clinic, your care will be
skilfully provided by our team of highly qualified
critical care registered nurses and licensed
practical nurses. Our nurses are specialists in
your medication therapy and are there to answer
any questions you may have. Our clinics are
equipped to handle medical emergencies and
have a physician available for emergency
consultations (Remicade™ infusions only).

BioClin provides free infusion services for
patients referred to our following medication
programs:
•        Remicade™ (infliximab)
•        Aclasta™ (zolendronic acid)
When you arrive at the clinic, your nurse will ask
you can safely receive your medication.

Your doctor may have also prescribed additional
medications to be administered before your
infusion (“pre-medications”). If any of these make
you drowsy (Benadryl™ for example) it is
recommended that you do not drive yourself
home.

After your infusion begins, your vital signs (blood
pressure & pulse) and your response to the
medication will be closely monitored. Depending
on your treatment, your infusion will take
anywhere from 15 minutes (Aclasta™) to one to
two hours (Remicade™). When your infusion has
been completed, depending on your treatment,
you may be asked to remain at the clinic for up to
an hour for additional monitoring.

And finally, although we do provide beverages
and light snacks, if your appointment goes over
the lunch hour we would recommend that you
bring your lunch.

Aclasta™ is a trademark of Novartis.
